This is a competition for creative, science based learners: a time to explore science in ways that are not always easy to accomplish in the classroom.  Students can create, build, and showcase their work.  They can also work as teams to solve problems.  The competitions will consist of "make and takes" where the student teams will build a device and bring it to the competition.  There will also be on-site activities where students will be asked to solve engineering or science based problems.

  1. Question was asked about Chain Gang....Tiebreaker will be "strength of chain"

  2. Rube Goldberg -- Question was also asked about the extra steps (steps over 15) on the Rube Goldberg Machine. Unless someone complains, we'd like to cap the steps at 15. The rest of the scoring will be as per the scoring rubric.

  3. For projects like Rube Golderberg and the mousetrap cars, is a team allowed to submit more than one submission for the same competition, or do they have to be on a different team? Thanks.

  4. Each team will be allowed to enter one per event. However, if you have more, and would like to see how they score, bring them along.

  5. If we bring two teams, we can have an entry from each? I will get the check in the mail, but I will need to email the team list to get there on time.

  6. Never mind, we are just bringing one team. Thanks!

  7. Rube Goldberg should be exactly 15 steps now? I sent the registration for a team of 12 from Edmunds Central today.

  8. Also, is the battery on the trebuchet required for an ignition?

  9. Yes on the 15 steps Cody.
D batteries are not required for an ignition. The D batteries can be used for any part of the machine except the forward motion.

Thanks for the questions Cody. :)

  10. Can we substitute students on our team if we have a student who is not able to go to keep our team at 12 members?

  11. Is not stopping for 3 seconds disqualifying for a the trebuchet? Also, can we have a team in each one of the Thinking on Your Feet competitions throughout the day. Are they all the same format?

  12. I would say that any that do not have a 3 second delay would score lower than those that do, even if they have greater distances. If all do not have the delay, then distances will be used for scoring. If only one team has the delay, and has minimum distances, that team would win. Other, no delay teams, would then finish out the placings. Hope that makes sense Spencer.

  13. The Thinking On Your Feet Competition is one ongoing competition. It starts at 9:30 and will probably get over about noon. All apologies for any confusion.
